Commercial SitesIn addition to your web site, you will have business cards, letterheads, invoices, receipts, etc. that represent your company. Each of these documents should advertise your web site and your e-mail addresses, just as they advertise your postal address and telephone numbers. Similarly, your media advertising should include your web site URLs and your e-mail addresses. If appropriate, your products should advertise your web site, perhaps by having a small sticker attached to the products. By doing this your web site advertises your company, and your company advertises your web site. Personal SitesIf your web site is non-commercial, you can still advertise it through links to your site that are in other sites that have a similar theme. It is common for people to "trade links" with each other. Don't trade links with sites that have no relevance to your site. Your visitors won't be interested in those sites, and search services may reduce your ranking in their databases. Commercial Sites and LinksIf your site is commercial, be careful about including links to other sites, because those links take people away from your site. My suggestion is to not have outside links in commercial sites unless those sites are closely related to your site in some way.
