Several Browsers Being Used I want the bestThe program that fetches (or writes) pages from the World Wide Web is the browser. There are several web browsers in common use. They are all good programs, and your choice of a browser is mostly personal preference. Some people use more than one browser. The following browsers are free. - Internet Explorer, known as IE, is provided by Microsoft as part of Windows XP. Because it is installed on every XP system, it is the most commonly used browser. However, because it is so popular, most viruses and Spyware are written for IE.
- A new kid on the block is Firefox. It is smaller and therefore faster than IE, and it has features that IE doesn't have (IE is catching up on this).
- A browser that has been available for a number of years is Opera. It is small and fast and is well liked by its users.
- Macintosh users have their choice of Safari, Firefox, or IE. Safari was created by Apple.
If you use a Windows computer, if you're not sure which browser to use, start with IE, since it is already installed on your computer. Then try Firefox and Opera. Both browsers are easy to download and install. If you use Macintosh, start with Safari.
