Recent versions of Microsoft Word and WordPerfect have the ability to Save As... files in HTML format. This means these programs can be used to create web pages. If the word processing documents contain graphics, the word processors automatically create .gif files. You can't to sophisticated things with a word processor, but you can create basic pages.
